Uranus By: Chianne McGovern, and Courtney Cadorette.

Uranus The Romans named the five planets closest to the sun after their most important gods. These were the only planets that were bright enough for them to see. Later, when telescopes were used, other planets were discovered. Astronomers decided to continue naming the Planets after Roman Gods with one exception - Uranus. Uranus was named after the Greek god of the sky. According to myth, he was the father of Saturn and the grandfather of Jupiter.

Place In the Solar System. 7 th planet from the sun It is 3 billion kilometers from the sun.

Size. The mass of the planet Uranus is 86.8 * 1024 kilograms The diameter of Uranus is 51,800 kilometers Uranus is 4 times the size of Earth

Rotation and revolution. The length of one day (one rotation around its axis) on Uranus is 17.2 hours. The length of one year (one revolution around the Sun) on Uranus is 30,589 days.

Temperature The high temperature of Uranus is 350°C The low temperature of Uranus is -224°C

Composition of the Planet Core: melted rock, which changes into a dirty ocean, which forms into blue green clouds. Surface: giant ball of gas and liquid. Clouds: made of tiny crystals which have frozen out of the plants atmosphere. And methane.

Appearance Blue green clouds cover the atmosphere. The clouds are what gave scientist the insight on how long it takes Uranus to rotate Uranus has flat dark rings.

Composition of Atmosphere Mixtures of helium, hydrogen, and methane. Uranus has a thick atmosphere.

Moons and Rings Uranus has thin, flat, dark rings. It has 15 moons –Miranda –Ariel –Umbriel –Tatiana –Oberon The other moons are too small to really be considered moons, as they might be comet or asteroids.

Summary. Uranus is a giant ball of gas. It has 15 moons, which some are smaller then others. Uranus is the 7 th planet from the sun, and is 4 times the size of earth. Uranus has a thick atmosphere, and if you were to enter the atmosphere you would be overcome by towering clouds miles high, and intense storms

Interesting facts. Uranus has 15 natural satellites and earth is one of them. At first scientist believed that Uranus was a comet.
