SOLAR SYSTEM PART I – INTRODUCTION PART II – SUN & PLANETS PART III – INTERESTING FACTS AND INFO ABOUT PLANETS PART IV -- RECAPITULATION

Our solar system is a group of planets and moons which travel round, or orbit, a star. Every star is actually a sun, which may have its own solar system.

The word solar comes from the latin word “sol” which means sun. Our solar system was formed about 4.6 billion years ago.

The Sun is a star. It is a great, glowing ball of hydrogen and helium gas. Its surface temperature is 6,000 o C. Without the Sun’s rays, life on Earth would die. Sun is one million times bigger than our planet,Earth.

SUN MERCURY VENUS EARTH MARS JUPITER SATURN URANUS NEPTUNE PLUTO

SOME MORE INFORMATION ABOUT PLANETS All the planets orbit the Sun.Planets nearer the Sun, take less time and planets further, take longer, as explained in table. 10 SOME MORE INFORMATION ABOUT PLANETS Planets in our solar system are named after the Roman gods, like Mars was the god of war.

SOME MORE INFORMATION ABOUT PLANETS A planet may look round, but it is actually shaped like a spheroid. It actually looks like a squashed ball.

WHAT ARE PLANETS MADE OF? Most of the smaller planets in our solar system have a solid surface made of rock. Jupiter,Saturn,Uranus and Neptune are made of gases.

IS THERE LIFE ON OTHER PLANETS? All the planets in the solar system have been explored with telescopes. So far, nothing living has been found. The other planets in our system all seem to be too hot, too cold, or made entirely of gases.

SOME INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT PLANETS SATURN HAS STRIPES & RINGS

SOME INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT PLANETS SATURN HAS STRIPES & RINGS. SOME OF THE GASES IN ATMOSPHERE OF SATURN DO NOT MIX.WHEN SATURN SPINS,HIGH WINDS BLOW THE GAS AROUND THE PLANET INTO STRIPES.. SATURN RINGS ARE MADE OF MILLIONS OF DUST AND ICE PARTICLES.THERE ARE SO MANY OF THEM THAT THE RINGS LOOK SOLID. THE RINGS SHINE BECAUSE THE ICE PARTICLES IN THEM REFLECT LIGHT.

SOME INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT PLANETS MARS IS RED

SOME INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT PLANETS MARS IS RED MARS IS RED BECAUSE IT IS RUSTY.THE SURFACE OF MARS IS COVERED IN IRON OXIDE OR RUST, WHICH IS FORMED WHEN IRON MIXES WITH SMALL AMOUNTS OF OXYGEN AND WATER.

SOME INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT PLANETS THE GREAT REDSPOT ON JUPITERS SURFACE IS A FURIOUS STORM. VENUS IS ALWAYS SURRONDED BY CLOUDS OF SULPHURIC ACID.
