5 ERMSAR 2012 – 21-23 March, 2012 – Köln (DE) ISTC/STCU CEG – SAM (Contact Expert Group on Severe Accident Management) Interaction between SARNET and CEG-SAM (ISTC/STCU) well established according to document entitled “Interaction between EC-SARNET and CEG- SAM activities”, which was endorsed by both groups in 2005 and 2010 Results of SARNET activities periodically presented to CEG-SAM members Transmission of ISTC/STCU proposals and project reports related to SAM to SARNET topical co-ordinators Experimental results of ISTC/STCU projects used for development of knowledge as part of SARNET Joint Programme of Activities (JPA)

6 ERMSAR 2012 – 21-23 March, 2012 – Köln (DE) Status of CEG-SAM in October 2011 Quite successful since its launching in April 2002 About 5.5 M€ funding from EC for 14 ISTC projects from 2002 to 2011: –11 ISTC projects funded and completed –3 ISTC projects funded and running 1 STCU project funded by Canada (300 k$) and running A paper to summarise the main results of the 15 ISTC/STCU projects is being written to be published in a peer-reviewed journal ISTC and STCU funding from EC –It has decreased from ~ 25 M€ in 2007 to ~ 7.4 M€ in 2009 and in 2010 –No more projects on SAM funded since 2009 ISTC will be closed on 31/12/2014 Collaboration with Russia will continue through the Euratom- ROSATOM Working Group on nuclear fission (Under the cooperation agreement on nuclear safety between Euratom and Russia in 2002) –Last meeting on 13 October 2011 in Moscow –Next meeting in the autumn 2012 in Brussels Website: http://cegsam.grs.de (password protected)

7 ERMSAR 2012 – 21-23 March, 2012 – Köln (DE) ERCOSAM Collaborative Project (small/medium scale - focused) Key objectives: –Establish whether in a test sequence representative of a SA in a LWR a hydrogen (helium) stratification can be established during part of the transient starting from the initiation of a LOCA blowdown until the end of bulk hydrogen release from the reactor vessel into the containment –How can this stratification be broken down by the operation of SAM systems: sprays, coolers and Passive Auto-catalytic Recombiners? Started in July 2010 for 4 years in FP7 Total cost: 2 613 522 € Total EC contribution: 1 000 000 € 6 partners: –PSI (CH) Coordinator, IRSN (FR), CEA (FR), KIT (DE), NRG (NL), AECL (Canada) –2 new partners: JÜLICH GmbH (DE), NRC (USA) Link with ROSATOM project SAMARA through a Coordination Agreement (CooA) signed by all parties –2 partners: IBRAE RAN, SSC RF-IPPE –1 new partner: JSC Afrikantov OKBM
