Pathways in Technology Early College High School is a new model for Secondary (High School) Education How new? ◦ 2011 – IBM and NYC Schools and City University of NY (CUNY) ◦ 2014-15 through grant funding 16 schools opened in NYS ◦ 2015-16 through grant funding 10 more schools will open (September 2015)

NNCS and SLL BOCES submitted a request for funding for all school districts Eighth grade students from any sending school in our area may submit an application for Northern P-TECH Academy Northern P-TECH Academy is a regional effort to redesign instruction Students remain on the district roster while they attend P-TECH (up to six years) Second floor high school space will be leased from Potsdam Central School District

Students enter the P-TECH Academy as 9 th grade students Students attend Northern P-TECH Academy for the full day Students complete high school Regents requirements AND earn college course credit at P-TECH Students commit to a six year program combining high school and college course work

Students begin earning college credit in 10 th grade Potential for up to 30 college credits by completion of 4 th year Students are bussed from their home school to Northern P-TECH Academy in Potsdam Years 5 and 6 students will attend college on the campus or satellite campus

Traditional high school course work with a non-traditional approach Project based learning Student and teacher collaboration Work place learning experiences College experience while in high school P-TECH and college advising on personal pathways

Are motivated to learn in new and exciting ways Are innovative and creative Are interested in applying science, technology and math Work well in a collaborative team environment Thrive in a non-traditional classroom setting Are interested in one of the pathways

The Program: Students remain in high school an extra two years to earn an associate’s degree The Skills: Employers help craft the curriculum so graduates are ready to enter the career of their choice The Commitment: Students are mentored by business, advised by college and high school from 9 th grade

Sports? Local school decision but students will be bussed back in time to participate Music? Let us know what you are interested in. We’re still working on that. Six years? What about graduation? When high school requirements are complete it will be a local decision whether students “walk across the stage” Financial Aid? Students remain on the high school roster and are not eligible for aid We are sure you have more questions....

Submit a complete application and parent, teacher and counselor forms to your guidance office Guidance will submit complete application packets to SLL BOCES by March 25 After April break we will contact each person to ask them to share a few more things about themselves Decisions on enrollment will be made in May Summer orientation in July or August 2015
