The importance of cities GHG annual emissions for cities CityEmission São Paulo0,015 GtCO 2 eq (2009) Rio de Janeiro0,022 GtCo 2 eq (2012) Curitiba0,003 GtCO 2 eq (2008) Belo Horizonte0,002 GtCO 2 eq (2007) Brazil1,24GtCO 2 eq (2010) Energy consumption by sectors (2013) Brazilian populations and projections (in millions of people)

The annual emissions are greater than the level consistent with the objective of 2 degrees at the end of the century (estimated 50 GtCO 2eq base year 2010), i.e. 20% more than in 2000. Countries presented their pledges but there is much doubt about compliance. If they meet what they promised the gap will be 8 GtCO 2eq in 2020. In other words: There is a gap of 8 Gt CO 2eq by 2020, to bring emissions to 44 GtCO 2eq. The expectation is that we are in 2020 with an emission of 58 GtCO 2eq. Facts

How to reduce this gap?

Numbers close to a small cities; Area - 5,2 km²; Estimate population 60.000 people; Circulation of 100.000 people/day; Circulation of 25.000 vehicles/day; Energy consumption– R$ 24 millions/year; Water consumption- 14 millions liters/year University City in numbers

Financing: Fund made up by the exempt of an Cidade Universitária UFRJ campus energy consumption taxation (ICMS tax) Management: A council formed by public and private sector, plus researches with largely known in sustainability areas and universities administration. Aims: Develop and financing projects in the infrastructure and energy fields. Target: Strengthen as if a Benchmarking in sustainability, innovation and cutting edge technology. Mobility program Increase the campus accessibility Caronaê A carpooling app integrated with the university administration, connecting students, staff and teachers UFRJ Fleet Sharing A sharing system of the university campus fleet, supported by software for smartphones, able to manage online demand from UFRJ vehicle users, in Ilha do Fundão campus. The Pilot Project has 30 cars from UFRJ and provide opportunities and results such as: Cultural Change; Rational use; Defining optimal fleet; Emission reduction.

Mobility program project to develop campus circulation Support the internal campus mobility With the idea of expanding the transport modes in the Cidade Universitária - UFRJ, Fundo Verde It offers two golf cars and a van to integrate the Green Fund Mobility program. Encouraging active transport intracampus A series of studies and interventions, conducted with the aim of encouraging the use of bicycles on campus. Among the projects already completed or in conclusion are: installation of bike racks around campus; and, expansion of the cycling network in the Fundão ( 5 km ). Among the studies for future implementation, a Bike Sharing system, in which the initial project includes the installation of 29 stations with 400 bicycles. (ITDP, 2014) Other projects: Comparison between electric X gas vehicle Project whit the aim of contribute in the discussion about electric X gas vehicle performance. The proposed tests will present data of emissions factors and performance of the vehicles, among others.

Biofuel on Campus Project Numbers A biodiesel pilot project collected in a month approximately 770 L of oil in 8 (eight ) restaurants of Cidade Universitária; The van, part of the "support the internal campus mobility" project, can be fill with biodiesel ( 100% ), produced by the oil collected in restaurants inside UFRJ. Not only the Van could be fill with this fuel, but also the vehicle used to collect the oil in the restaurants.
14
The path to recycling used oil Restaurants give the residual frying oil. The oil is stored and transported in “bombonas”. Collection carried out by truck fueled with Biodiesel. UFRJ Biodiesel laboratory produce and test the quality of the biodiesel. Van is fueled with biodiesel, increasing intracampus transportation options 1 2 3 4 5

Final Remarks Biofuel is one of the alternatives to reduce GHG emission at the campus site; Mobility is the main area concerning GHG emissions at UFRJ campus; The Green Fund mobility project also aims to improve the mobility in the campus and in the access to them; All Green Fund activities must reduce the GHG emissions.
