17. 70% of persons over age 65 will need long- term care during their lives. Medicare (health insurance ) covers limited stays in nursing homes when skilled nursing care is required. Does NOT cover assisted living. Medicaid (low income & savings) may cover some assisted living costs, provides nursing home coverage. Facilities NOT required to take Medicaid.
