Variety of services which help meet the medical and/or non-medical needs of people with a chronic illness or disability who cannot care for themselves over an extended period of time. Who? Acute Long-Term Care needs Recovering from an accident or surgery Relatively shorter-term care needs Chronic Long-Term Care needs Prolonged illness or disability Limited physical or cognitive functioning

12 Understanding the Impact of Family Caregiving on Work Most Family Caregivers Juggle Caregiving With Employment – 61 % of family caregivers age 50-plus work either full-time (50 %) or part-time (11%). More Workers Have Eldercare Responsibilities – 42 % of U.S. employees have cared for an aging relative or friend in the last five years. – Workers with eldercare responsibilities cut across all racial and ethnic groups. – Nearly 1 in 4 (22 %) workers (45- to 64-year-olds) care for a parent - largest of any age group. 17 70% of persons over age 65 will need long- term care during their lives. Medicare (health insurance ) covers limited stays in nursing homes when skilled nursing care is required. Does NOT cover assisted living. Medicaid (low income & savings) may cover some assisted living costs, provides nursing home coverage. Facilities NOT required to take Medicaid. Long-term Care Insurance frequently covers in-home help, assisted living facility costs and nursing homes. @ 20 hrs/wk for 52 weeks Source: US Dept of Health and Human Services 17

28 Veterans Assistance Program Always Best Care can help Veterans get the funds to pay for the care they need through our strategic legal partner – Center for Elder Veterans Rights. Our legal partner provides clients with an opinion of eligibility, and tracks the client’s claim status directly with the VA to expedite approval.
