North Middle Patriot Traits Who – Everyone at North Middle School What – These are the characteristics everyone at North Middle should possess themselves and expect from each other. Respect-Responsibility-Integrity When – ALWAYS!! Where - On school property & hopefully practiced at home & everywhere you go.

Respect Self o Dress for Success o Take Pride in Yourself/Do Your Best o Set Goals Others o Golden Rule o If you can’t say something nice….. o Hands and Feet to Yourself Property o Keep Our School Neat and Clean

Responsibility Be Prepared for Class o Have a planner, pencil, books, paper, completed assignments, etc. Attendance o On time and ready to learn Ask for Help o Participate and Be Involved in Class o Enrichment Time and Homework Help Bus (T,W,R & F)

Integrity Do the right thing, even when no one is looking o What is the difference between helping a friend and giving her/him an answer? o How do I deal with others who try to get me do something wrong? Everyone has choices o Think before you act-what is the best choice for me?

Learning Targets 1.The students will review North Middle School’s Patriot Traits of Respect, Responsibility, and Integrity 2.The students will brainstorm more ideas on what Respect, Responsibility, and Integrity looks and feels like. 3.The students will learn about earning Patriot Cards and Rewards for exhibiting positive behaviors. 4.The students will create posters, poems, songs, game, or other idea for promoting and celebrating our traits within their TA and grade level.

RESPECT Respect is treating others only as you want to be treated in the same situation Be tolerant of differences Use good manners Use appropriate language Be considerate of the feelings of others Do not threaten, hit, or hurt anyone Deal peacefully with anger, insult, and disagreements Follow directions Be considerate of other people’s property Accept the various roles within the school and the community How do you think students show respect at school?

RESPONSIBILITY Responsibility is being accountable to do what you should or must do; being trusted to do what is right. Be on time to class and activities Follow classroom and school expectations Come prepared to learn and participate Bring supplies and assignments to class Keep area neat and clean (locker and materials) Appropriately fill in planner Know and follow rules as written in Parent/Guardian and Student Handbook Accept consequences for your actions What are some responsibilities of a student? Why are they important?

INTEGRITY Integrity is your internal values; consistently doing the right thing – even when no one is watching. Know how and where to go for help Be honest – tell the truth Think before you act and speak Be accountable for what you say or do Be honorable – play by the rules Be reliable Be trustworthy – do not deceive, cheat, or steal Don’t take advantage of others Have self respect Give an example of when a student is showing they have integrity. How does that make our school and community better?

Now What? The Challenge: By September 4th, we want to have the hallways, classrooms, lunchroom, and entryways reminding us about RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY, and INTEGRITY ! We are asking every student to create a poster, write a poem, film a commercial (to be aired!), write a song, or whatever you and your TA teacher decide will help everyone how to be a North Middle School Patriot! What will you do?
