2 Updates Promoting Youth Association Activities –Eight Youth Associations Providing Legal Assistance with counseling to tackle women issues under DARI (Women’s Desk)

3 Youth Associations Tabelugummi Youth Association –Corruption & RTI 2008 Floods resulted in damaged houses ITDA approved construction of 8 new houses at Rs 36,000 each RTI Enquiry by Youth Association revealed 4 owners getting Rs 10,000 Youth Association managed to get the officials return 70% of the money they initially pocketed –Managed to get 50 job cards for 50 BPL families –Helped court in distributing court summons to remote areas

4 Youth Association Singavarm Youth Association –Godugumamidi villagers received government sanction for Indiramma housing –Village Organization withdrew 19 lakhs of the sanctioned money but only 8 lakhs were distributed –Youth Association filed for RTI and found all money got released –Further investigation showed that housing board officials, ward members, sarpanch and local contractors siphoned it from the VO –A special officer from Hyderabad validated the Youth Association findings –A police complaint with the above information resulted in 8 lakhs returned within 2-3 days. Following up on the remaining amount

5 Other Updates Streamlined old age pension issues resulting in addressing misuse of Rs 1,50,000 Held 15 training workshops Held awareness campaigns at Panchayat level on Health and NREGS Rejuvenated drinking water source in a village

6 Legal Assistance and Counseling Handling 18 cases –13 new cases, 5 old cases Anjali – Tribal women with two children –Counseling and legal case helped the abusive husband to mend hisways Alima – Killed by husband and mother-in- law. Police tried to remove the names of the accused from the chargesheet but Aranyika fought to restore their names

7 Legal Assistance and Counseling Appalamma –A tribal women exploited by a non tribal –Forced her to have an abortion –Aranyika persisted in its case against the accused and had him in police custody for one month. Local TV and newspapers covered Jeevam – Old case –Raj Kumar was issued a NBW based on a false case filed several years ago –Raj Kumar attended the court voluntarily –The high court issued a stay order and dispensed the demand for appearance

8 Other Activities Capacity Building to the volunteers –Two day workshop for 40 volunteers Van Campaign –25 volunteers visited 10 mandals meeting mandal officers, holding public meetings Awareness in Education Institutions Wall writings with slogans and messages Women’s Day Celebrations
