2 Key Messages of the Day CDC is  Embracing the increased rigor and transparency introduced with EPLC  Expecting benefits to CDC from use of the EPLC  Improved management response for our projects and investment portfolio to budgetary and strategic changes  Movement of projects into production more quickly and with higher quality  Better measurement of performance  Improved competitiveness of our investments in the budget process  Implementing in a progressive manner allowing flexibility at organizational levels  Anticipating continued leadership with HHS in the ongoing improvement of EPLC 2

5 CDC Implementation – Review  EPLC represents industry best practice  CDC projects should already be following the “intent” of the EPLC  Focus in on the “project” and not the paper, forms or tools  Project management improvement will be incremental over time  Project size, risk, and complexity will determine the appropriate application of rigor and use of documentation

6  CDC is getting our governance structures in place to perform the decision-making activities for IT projects  Identification of critical partners at the “lowest” level of the organizational governance is occurring  Stage Gate reviews will start in February  Awareness, communication & training of EPLC will continue  The tailoring process that allows for adjusting EPLC activities, deliverables or reviews is REAL  The HHS EPLC Policy and Framework is effective October 6, 2008  All new projects should follow the EPLC as of the effective date  Existing projects will be “phased in” at their 1st Stage Gate Review\  The CDC UP www.cdc.gov/cdcup - your portal for successful EPLC implementation at the project level CDC’s Implementation of EPLC – Quick Review
