3 Symbiosis A relationship between two or more different organisms in close association that is not necessarily of benefit to each other.

4 Mutualism Any symbiotic relationship in which both organisms benefit from their association.

5 Parasitism Any symbiotic relationship in which one organism is harmed while the other benefits.

6 Commensalism Any symbiotic relationship in which one organism derives some benefit while the other seems to be unaffected by the association.

7 Predation The capturing of other animals (prey) as a means of maintaining life.

8 Scavenging Feeding on dead animals or other decaying organic matter.

9 Competition The rivalry between two or more different organisms for one of life’s necessities (water, food, shelter, mate). Interspecific-between different species Intraspecific-between same species

10 Your task Match the vocabulary terms with the definitions (slips of paper)

11 Your next task On the dry erase board, draw or write an example of each type of relationship that you are shown. You may use human relationships, a relationship from nature or make up a relationship. Do not write anything other than the answer on your dry erase board.
