Objectives: Students will learn about quilting in the African American Communities. Students will create a collage quilt square by cutting out shapes/symbols from felt. Students will learn how to thread a needle. Students will learn a running stitch. Students will learn how to sew on buttons. Procedures: Each student will choose a 9”x12” piece of felt. Each student will cut out additional pieces of felt to create symbols, pictures. Students will thread a neele, and learn the running stitch. Students will learn how to sew on buttons and add embellishments. Each student will add his/her quilt square to the large class quilt. Assessment: Student work will be evaluated on whether the running stitch was completed properly, proper threading of a needle, sewing on a button technique. This is a community class project therefore each student is required to add to the class quilt.
