Bellringer – In your journals HW DUE: Timeline of Psychology THINK: do you want to increase the frequency or decrease the frequency of a behavior? Reinforce or punish? 1.How would you use operant conditioning if you wanted to train your dog to start doing backflips? 2.If you want your little brother to stop playing loud Justin Bieber songs? 3.If you want a student in school to stop showing up late? 4.If you want a football player to work harder to improve their performance on the field? 5.If you want a worker to keep doing good work on the job?
3
Today We will continue examining how the 6 psychological perspectives can help explain how we can MANIPULATE human behavior We will define classical conditioning
4
Why learn this? Classical conditioning is probably the first thing people think about when they hear the word psychology This will give us a leg up on most who don’t learn this theory until college
5
Demonstration I need someone to come to the front of the room so I can repeatedly splash water in their face. Embarrassment is a subjective reality. It’s only embarrassing if you think of it as embarrassing. – It’s only weird if you make it weird. It’s not weird. Or embarrassing. It’s psychology! – You will get a PRIZE!
6
What is the stimulus going to be in this demonstration?

Conditioned Stimulus: A meaningless stimulus that is given new meaning
15
Conditioned Response: learned response to a meaningless stimulus

Exit Ticket 1.What conditioned behaviors do you experience in your life? 2.In what ways has conditioning effected your thinking?
