The canyon has been a mightly barrier to humans. Only its rims, never the gorge,show evidence of humans. Occupation-not ever by ute Indians living area since written history began. Before the creation of 3dams upstream of Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park,the Gunnison River was as much a 5 times more powerful than it is today! The temp at the bottom of the Black Canyon is approximately 8 degrees warmer than at the rim. FACTS TO KNOW
