4. Key Headlines The best potential and existing coaches need to be identified early and supported through specialist mentoring programmes, drawing from experience within the game. The FA must boast a team of the highest-quality tutors with the knowledge and experience to make a difference and inspire the next generation of coaches. Collectively, with our partners in the professional game, we must strive to provide more opportunities for talented English coaches. We need to create a culture of life-long learning where coaches strive to improve, are qualified, licensed and have far greater recognition and status at both youth and senior level. A nucleus of specialists must be trained to work with younger players and the provision of sports science, medicine and psychology content must be enhanced to complement our coaching awards. Our programme of support for all coaches must be significantly improved and we must retain more coaches through the levels.

6. BUCS contribution? A progressive pathway for student coaches linked to Football Futures providing CPD, mentoring and a range of coaching opportunities. Four Pilot university coaches hubs linked to CFA’s Eight student places in the FAs National Coaching Scholarship. Bursaries to support student coach development (qualifications and experience). Deliver the first BUCS National Volunteer CPD event. Embed the FA Respect programme within BUCS and the HE sector.
