ROOTS are the numbers that you get when taking the square root of a number. Not all roots will be of perfect squares though. Example: Roots of perfect squares are always integers. This means that they can have positive and negative answers. Example: 16 = 4 16= +4 and -4

To identify a perfect square you must ask yourself is there a number that when multiplied by itself can give you the number that is under the Square Root symbol. If the number 25 is asked if it is a perfect square you must think is there a number that when multiplied by itself gives you that number. And the answer is yes. 5x5 gives you 25.
