MnSCU Pathways for a Next Generation Learning Environment Overview - Rationale: Landscape of learning environment changing from LMSs to an interconnected “lego”style learning environment* Large scale trend toward cloud services for connected, integrated services ASA Tech Council Recommendation Launch an environmental scan and product RFI project to evaluate possible pathways for ensuring high quality, connected LE services for MnSCU faculty and students well into the 2020s and possibly beyond. MnSCU Pathways for a Next Generation Learning Environment Scope 4 month (Dec – March) project under the charge of the ASA Technology Council with work delegated to the Council’s LE Work Group Purpose: Conduct an environmental LE scan to include national trends in higher education related to Next Gen LEs and a scan of other large institutions or systems to identify ideas, trends, issues, and potential pathways for MnSCU’s future LE Complete a product RFI in the LE landscape Next Gen LE Workgroup meeting for the first time next Monday – targeting RFI issue date of end of December Updates brought to CATTs during project

D2L Brightspace Topical Meetings for CATTs? GENESIS Originally Envisioned Purpose of CATTs by the ASA Tech Council and the LE Work Group: Institutional team to include broad campus representation, including teaching faculty representation to help manage campus decisions and communication about the learning management system (BrightSpace by D2L) and other academic technologies that have potential for improving the teaching and learning process.

CATT Meetings for D2L Brightspace Topics LE Work Group’s Envisioned Possible Campus Level Activities of CATTs Communication regarding proposed or upcoming changes to the learning management system and other academic technologies to faculty, students, and academic/student affairs leaders and gather their input via a consultation process Implement a process about the LMS and other academic technologies which fosters broad input and collaboration on each campus Review MnSCU-provided documents explaining LMS tools, local permissions, technology resources, and LMS integrations available at each campus

CATT Meetings for D2L Brightspace Topics LE Work Group’s Envisioned Possible Campus Level Activities of CATTs Make collaborative campus decisions about implementation of academic technologies including LMS permissions and tools and third party integrations Suggest technologies that have potential for improving instruction or teaching workflows, inside or outside of the LMS and share them with the MnSCU Academic Technology Community and the MnSCU Educational Innovations unit Connect with campus innovators who are using emerging technologies or existing technologies in exceptional ways and communicate these with the MnSCU Academic Technology Community Participate in the MnSCU Academic Technology Community, sharing issues of concern, other topics, or best practices and present your campus academic technology team perspectives
