6 Byzantine Empire The Byzantine Empire was the Greek- speaking eastern continuation of the Roman Empire after the fall of Rome. Its capital was Constantinople (modern day Istanbul).

16 guild a group organized by merchants, artisans and craft worker to protect the members and set quality and price standards for all

17 Hagia Sophia a former Greek Orthodox Baslica (church) later an imperial mosque, and now a museum
