Christ in the Old Testament... This week - 26 th April 15 Adam/Fall/Abel/Seth

Adam Created in the image of God, from the dust of the Earth. The first Adam turned from Father in the garden of Eden, the last Adam (Christ) turned to Father in the garden of Gethsemane. The first Adam sinned at a tree, the last Adam (Christ) bore our sins on a tree. The first Adam was head over all creation, the last Adam (Christ) is the head of the New creation. The first Adam died a sinner. The last Adam (Christ) died for sinners. The first Adam brought Death, Condemnation and Judgment on Man, the last Adam (Christ) brought Life, Grace, Justification, Righteousness to man. (Romans 5 v 17-21). Death came through Adam, Alive in Christ. (1 Corinthians 15 v 47).

Adam Romans 5:13-15 13 To be sure, sin was in the world before the law was given, but sin is not charged against anyone’s account where there is no law. 14 Nevertheless, death reigned from the time of Adam to the time of Moses,(to whom the law was given) even over those who did not sin by breaking a command, as did Adam, who is a pattern of the one to come. 15 But the gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died by the trespass of the one man, how much more did God’s grace and the gift that came by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, overflow to the many! 1 Corinthians 15 V 45-46 So it is written: “The first man Adam became a living being”; the last Adam, a life-giving spirit. 46 The spiritual did not come first, but the natural, and after that the spiritual. 47 The first man was of the dust of the earth; the second man is of heaven.

The fall Mans disobedience to the word and will of God, brings sin into the perfect world that God had created. Adam ate from the forbidden tree. Genesis 2:17 Jesus died on a tree for the forgiveness of the sins of the World, an act of obedience to the Father. Romans 5:19. By Adams sin, he brought death, judgment and condemnation upon the human race. This were radically changed in a moment. By Jesus in one act brought, Life, the free gift, grace, justification, righteousness and sovereignty. All this at the Cross.

Abel Was a shepherd, as a shepherd he presented his offering to God. Genesis 4:4. Jesus – Was the good shepherd (John 10:11) Abel, was hated and despised by his brother (Cain) without cause. Cain slew Abel out of envy, Abel meet with a violent death in a field. Jesus was hated and despised by his brethren. Handed over to the authorities and tried wrongly. He died a death at the hands of his bothers. (John 12:25) It was though envy that Jesus was delivered up to be crucified. Because of Cain's actions he was marked by the Lord and sent from the land to live away from others, the mark was a sign to others never to kill him, (Genesis 4).

Seth Was born of Adam and Eve after the killing of Abel., Cain killed his brother Abel in a fit of rage because of envy, pride, jealousy and ego. Then, based upon these ethics and principles, he went on to become the father of human civilization. The taint of his genealogy can be seen in many. However, after this tragic event, a third son was born to Adam and Eve. He was named Seth, meaning to put, or to substitute. Seth was wise and just and from his descendants were born every prophet and mystic of the bible, a holy bloodline which eventually led to and produced the Christ. Jesus was the substitute for our sins on the cross

Conclusion - Two men TWO MEN who are compared and contrasted: Adam and Christ TWO ACTS: Adam’s act of disobedience when he ate the forbidden fruit (Gen. 3:6); Christ’s act of obedience when He died on the cross (Phil.2:8). See also Romans 5:18-19. TWO RESULTS: Because of what Adam did: DEATH, JUDGMENT, and CONDEMNATION. Because of what Christ did: LIFE and RIGHTEOUSNESS AND GRACE. Notice that Adam and Christ were representative men. They acted on man’s behalf (just as our elected representatives in Government vote for us). Adam sin came upon man, Christ died for us, to set us free from sin.
