What is a virus? A virus is harmful software that can spread very easily by s, opening certain software and chain mail. They can also spread from one computer to another. They are unwanted and they can damage your computer, making it freeze all the time and sometimes crashing it. It is very dangerous and can be disguised as anything so be careful what you go on!!!
4
What damage can a virus do?
A virus can delete all your work, it can crash your computer and it can mess up everything you own that is saved on your computer.
5
What are the different types of viruses?
Resident Viruses This type of virus is a permanent which dwells in the RAM memory. From there it can overcome and interrupt all of the operations executed by the system: corrupting files and programs that are opened, closed, copied, renamed etc. Examples include: Randex, CMJ, Meve, and MrKlunky. Direct Action Viruses The main purpose of this virus is to replicate and take action when it is executed. When a specific condition is met, the virus will go into action and infect files in the directory or folder that it is in and in directories that are specified in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file PATH. This batch file is always located in the root directory of the hard disk and carries out certain operations when the computer is booted. Boot Virus This type of virus affects the boot sector of a floppy or hard disk. This is a crucial part of a disk, in which information on the disk itself is stored together with a program that makes it possible to boot (start) the computer from the disk.
6
Preventing viruses Never open s if you don’t know who or where they are from never download stuff from sites you aren't completely sure are safe or not get anti-virus software for your computer don’t go on sites you don’t know
7
Drawbacks Anti-virus software can be expensive and there isn't a 100% chance that it will definitely work because you're computer might be too damaged.
8
Hacking!!!
9
What is a hacker? A hacker is a computer genius who breaks into someone else's computer. They will either do it for a serious reason or sometimes just for fun.
10
What damage can they do? Hackers can cause a lot of trouble because if they hack into a computer, they can access all the information, pictures, and files that you own on them. Also if the government or something have a top secret thing than a hacker could hack into there computers and find out all there plans and secrets.
11
How to prevent them To prevent hackers you can add plenty of confusing passwords on your computer and also make sure you don’t keep your internet on while your not there because then the hackers can spend much more time to hack into your computer.
12
Some other reasons for hackers
Hackers might not always be bad people because also the police or government could easily hire hackers to hack into criminals computers and they could help them solve mysteries etc.
13
Why hackers hack into computers
Most hackers hack into businesses computers so they can find out all about the finances. Also some hackers hack into strangers computers so they can find credit card details and spend all there money without needing the actual card.
14
Back ups!!
15
Why is it important to back up your work?
You should always back up your most important work because then if you get a virus or lose it then you will have another version kept safe somewhere else. If you don’t have a back up and you somehow lose your work then you are stuck because you might not be able to get it back so you will have to do it all over again.
16
What should you back it up on?
You should back up your work on either a USB (memory stick) or if you don’t own one then you can always back it up on a different computer so if one of your computers get a virus then you will still have it on your other computer. You could also keep it on a CD ROM.
17
How can you keep your backups safe?
Use plenty of PASSWORDS DON’T lose your USB DON’T give anyone your passwords DON’T make sure your back up isnt connected to your original so that if you lose your original your back up wont be lost as well.
