Six local teams led by Nesta and the Innovation Unit from summer 2011 to winter 2012. Annual costs associated with People Powered Health interventions ranged from just £100-£400 per person They found the NHS could save at least £4.4bn a year if it involved people and communities more directly in the management of LTCs These savings are based on the most reliable evidence and represent a 7% reduction in A&E attendance, planned and unplanned admissions, and outpatient admissions People Powered Health

The vision of People Powered Health is: The health and social care system mobilises people and recognises their assets, strengths and abilities, not just their needs Living well with long-term conditions is powered by a redefined relationship, a partnership of equals between people and health care professionals The health and care system organises care around the person blurring the boundaries between health, public health, social care & community/voluntary organisations The vision

What kind of activities? Redefining consultations – care and support planning; promoting self-management support, connecting people with community activities Commissioning new services that provide ‘more than medicine’ - co-produced, includes peer support, supporting mutual exchange schemes such as timebanks, and coaching, mentoring and buddying Co–designing pathways to focus on long–term outcomes, recovery and prevention.

This could be: 1-2-1 with a health professional Getting support from a people-led support group, timebank, community group, that contributed to your wellbeing Or where you were involved at a strategic level and involved as an equal partner in making decisions about health services or commissioning What were the essential ingredients of the experience that made it so good?
