EARLY LIFE Born January 29, 1849 in Ohio, he attended public school in 1852.

MILITARY McKinley was in the Civil war after that he studied law. He was admitted to the bar in 1867.

BECOMING PRESIDENT In 1896 William McKinley was nominated to run for president for the republican party with Garret Herbart as his running mate. McKinley easily won the nomination for president in 1900. Jenning Bryan and Theodore Roosevelt were his vice presidents.

PRESIDENCY In 1898 the Spanish-American war began, with the Maine incident. Maine was attacked by Spain and weapons to defend themselves. McKinley provided arms. On April 25 th, 1825, war was declared on Spain. The United States captured, Cuba, Santiago, and Puerto Rico. Spain then offered the United States 20 million dollars to free them.

DEATH During a speech, McKinley was shot twice. Due to his injuries, McKinley died in 1901.

INTERESTING FACTS McKinley is on the dollar coin and the $500.00 bill. He had two children His wife’s name was Ida McKinley He was a Republican He had four sisters and three brothers.
