CONCEPT OF COMPETITIVE SPIRIT
Competitive Spirit is a powerful single minded energy which must be channeled in the right direction. Competitive spirit is the individual - drive to win - desire to succeed and be the best Examples: Both players were talented, but the one with the most competitive spirit won the match.

IMPORTANCE OF DEVELOPING COMPETITIVE SPIRIT
Importance of Developing Competitive Spirit is as follows: 1) Career Management: Competitive spirit and a desire to achieve, will effect one’s success in business. Competitive people may make a larger number of sales than peers, work longer hours, encourage creative ideas, and develop quality products and services, which will impress bosses and show a desire for a company’s well being and success. Organization need these qualities in employees to be competitive in a market. Additionally, the likelihood for career advancement is greater for those who possess these qualities. 2) Respect from Others: Possessing leaderships skills and a competitive spirit, reveals to co workers, bosses, friends, acquaintances and teachers that one has a rest for life. Hard work will gain you respect whether in sporting events, fundraisers, work competitions, school etc.

Importance of Developing Competitive Spirit is as follows: Likewise, studying more and practicing harder comes from an urge to do well and succeed. One may find that inspiring others is also an advantage of a competitive spirit. One’s hard work and successes may encourage others to be more competitive. 3) Self worth and Exciting Lifestyle: Working hard toward personal and career goals can provide a person with a feeling of self worth. Generally, competitive people are not afraid to try new things which can lead to exciting opportunities that other less competitive people may not encounter. Likewise, the journey to achievement, working toward a goal, enhances moods and can fight depression

Various managerial and organizational efforts 1) Recognize Winners Publicity: Honoring employee’s accomplishments – eg meeting quota, closing big sales – in front of their co workers can energize the whole team by motivating everyone to performs well and earn similar tasks. Making each team members performance publicity through leader boards or other tools adds further fuel to the fire as the rest of the team or even the entire company grows more involved in everyone’s performance. 2) Promote Fair Play: Friendly Competition can descent into resentment if the playing field is uneven. Make sure rewards are available to all who perform and that the criteria for topping a leader board

or taking home a prize are clearly defined. This ensures that everyone knows the rules and perceives the game as fair, but also that one has defined what aspects of the job one is trying to encourage employees to perform better. 3) Keep an Eye on Larger Objectives: Any workplace competition must align with company and team goals. The best competitions promote behaviours that hod strategic importance for the company, but might bot be the most exciting tasks to perform. Adding a friendly rivalry can bring much needed fun into the picture that encourages workers to complete these tasks quickly and effectively. So do not just implement competition for its own sake, make sure it is focused and directed toward improving specific team actions.

4) Add Team Competition along with Individual Competition: Sales people definitely enjoy the personal satisfaction and recognition that comes with beating one of their colleagues. However, being able to contribute to the success of a team can be even ore satisfying. Be sure to add a team elements when fostering competition to maximize the impact. 5) Post Positive Customer Feedback: It is important for businesses to make the most of the positive feedback from customers. Post employees feedback to a central location, and offer a prize for whoever gets the most positive comments. Posting positive customer feedback keeps the office environment positive and encourages employees to keep up their good work.

6) Reward Teamwork: Incentive programmes can turn on managers if employees become reluctant to share information with their peers. To combat negative competition, set up a programme to reward and acknowledge teamwork. This could be as simpleas asking each employees to share how a peer made their day easier. If one has a daily directional meeting in which employees describe their current workload and challenges, ask them to also give a feedback to a peer. This kind of public acknowledgement is often enough to motivate employees to keep helping each other.

7) Turn it into a Game: Create a game to recognize employees accomplishments and you could find a lighthearted air moving through your offices. Perhaps you will design a board game in which teams of co workers compete against each other. Some companies are even using sophisticated video games and simulation programmes to train managers. Whatever you do, make sure that your game ends with everyone winning. Avoid dividing your employees into winners and losers – try to find unique ways to reward each player.
