…is the oldest school in our town!!!
2
Our school is the oldest school in Tarnobrzeg. It all began in 1863, when the Countess Gabriela Tarnowska -founded an elementary school, in which learning took place only in winter. The school was situated in a Count building. The first employed teacher was Mrs Pawłowska, who taught children reading, writing and crafts. A year later the school moved to a rented house in Brewery Street. The teachers who taught there were Mr. Krasiński, Mr. Farbi and Mr.Szewczyk. Later, in the place were the burnt manor- house used to be, in a brand new building, a public school was created. In 1893 Mr. Gorylewicz organized a 5-class school mixed with separate divisions for girls and boys, and in 1912 they created a folk school.

After 8 years, a mixed school was divided into male and female branch, and the period of study was extended to 6 years. The head of the male school, located in a newly constructed, brick building, was Mr Joseph Łapatański. The female school, located in a wooden building on the other side of the church, was led by Helena Weissowa. In 1922, folk schools (female and male) were transformed into 7-class elementary schools. They existed until the outbreak of the World War II (1939).

During the war, students were acquiring knowledge in the former female school building, in secret. In 1944, after years of Nazi occupation, the activity of schools was resumed. In 1950 the school was converted into Educational School. It had the name of Count Jan Tarnowski. Mr Rudolph Junikiewicz became the headmaster of this school. In the fifties, the school management was often changed. Only in 1959, the principal of School No. 1 was Mr Vladislav Furman, who held this position for 16 years. He also modernised and overhauled the school’s building.

W 1975 Zofia Schabowska was app0inted the headmistress of the school. In 1977, the Board of Education in Tarnobrzeg merged Primary School No. 1 with Primary School No. 2 with the name of Primary School No. 1 in Tarnobrzeg. In 1982, special classes were created in the school. In 1987, the new principal of the school was Helena Serafin. In 1994 there was 130th anniversary of the existence of the school, and then it was given the name of Stanislaw Jachowicz.

In 1995 our school was 5th within the top 100 schools in Poland. On September 1 st. 1999 as a result of the reform of education, School No. 1 was turned into 6-class elementary school and 3-year Junior High. Mrs Grażyna Wianecka became the headmistress of the School. In June 2002 the first graduates left the 3-year Junior High. The history of our school is rich and interesting. For over 140 years of its existence a lot has changed: principals, teachers, students, the name of the school, buildings. In each passing year, the school has been developing and improving to educate smarter students, who often come back to the school walls as a parent, teacher, director...
