2005-01-19 Teemu Rinta-aho NomadicLab, Ericsson Research P2P web searching, or the death of Google? Web search engines play a big role in todays ”Internetworking”. However, these have traditionally been run on centralized servers. The problem with these services are that their search indexes are often weeks old and they do not find what is available right now in the WWW. TARGET: What P2P web searching technologies exist and what are their differences? How do they compare (performance, security, ease-of-use,...) with Google and others? Are there any security problems in this approach, and how could those be solved? REQUIRES: I think this topic is suitable for both master’s degree and postgraduate students. The student have some freedom in choosing the viewpoint and the advancement level of his paper in this quite broad topic.
