How to use TaxWise on AARP laptops Turn on computer Log in as Volunteer Enter password #1 Click on “Start Tax-Aide Drive” Enter password #2 Click on site icon to start TaxWise Enter password #3

How to shut down AARP laptops “Stop Tax-Aide Traveler” icon Flash drives “Stop Traveler” icon “Safely Remove Hardware” on bottom taskbar Select flash drive. Wait for “safe to remove” message Turn off computer Windows XP: Start, Shut Down Windows Vista: Start, >, Shut Down

TaxWise Online (TWO) Montclair United Way will be our pilot site for TWO Their old desktop computers cannot run “desktop” version of TaxWise 2009 A benefactor is also providing newer computers We will have a half-day training session for site volunteers on January TBD 12/14/2015 8

Easy access to references “Site References” tab in TaxWise Folder contains all publications you might need at the site “Home” tab takes you back

TaxWise tips NEVER USE THE PULLDOWN MENU IN TAXWISE TO CHANGE SITES Always use the desktop icon for the site Frequently click “File”, “Save Return” to protect against loss of data

Printer sharing Wireless Network Printer is plugged into a wireless router Each computer connects to the printer through a secure wireless network 3 types of network printers are used: HP 1022n HP 1505n Brother 5370 ALL SITES

Getting returns to your ERO ?? If preparing returns on flash drive, your ERO will keep the flash drive If using AARP computer, transfer of backup files using Flash Drive is recommended E-mailing backup files is allowed This can be useful if ERO is absent from site Must attach 2 backup files to email

Protect Taxpayer Data Be very careful not to lose flash drive (Training flash drives contained no real taxpayer data) Loss of flash drive is treated same as loss of computer Must be reported to Gary Blauth immediately AARP has to notify every taxpayer whose data may have been on that device If practical, local coordinator or ERO should retain flash drives between sessions

When will I get the software? First “e-filing” version of Federal: Jan 12 NJ state software: hopefully this week Then I can assemble the “clone” which has all sites and defaults Bring your computers on Thursday, Jan 21 for software installation I will do personal laptops that day AARP laptops can be picked up Friday, Jan 22 12/14/2015 14
