Experiment 1 : Design a simple set-up to show how to use the steam to move a circular paper strip. Draw your experimental set-up in the following space provided.
2
Diagram of set-up :
3
Question : What can you deduce ? Heat energy is changed into kinetic energy.
4
Experiment 2 : Blow air to the fan of the wind-driven electricity generator and see what happens ?
5
Observation : The lamp lights up. Question : What can you deduce ? Kinetic energy is changed into light energy.
6
Experiment 3 : Demonstration experiment. Your teacher will show you the steam engine model and how to use steam to generate electricity.
7
Conclusion : In this experiment, water is heated up to form steam which moves the turbine. In this case, heat energy is changed into kinetic energy. When the turbine moves, it drives the generator to produce electricity. In this case, kinetic energy is changed into electrical energy.
8
In the power station, the principle of generation of electricity is similar to that of the steam engine model except that petroleum or coal is used as the fuel instead of alcohol.
