3 Objective of Standards Organizations Create an open, vendor-neutral, scaleable and secure standard for conducting electronic purchasing over the internet –lower purchasing, accounts payable, and order processing costs –improve end-user satisfaction and channel more indirect purchases towards contracted suppliers –for selling organizations - a key new channel for selling goods and services

12 Summary The general E-Commerce standards environment is fragmented with no apparent globally accepted formula. Technology is moving much faster than the standards processes. In general, industry won’t wait for a ubiquitous standard to surface.
