Respect It is important that you treat the people in all of these relationships with respect. Respect [ree-speck-tt] When you show care or concern for others. Example: to respect some-one’s rights It does not matter if you are: Young or Old Short or Tall Rich or Poor Have a disability or not You should always be treated with respect. How does some-one show respect?

Defining Relationships How do you know if some-one is your friend, or your boy-friend or girl-friend? Some-times it can be hard to tell if some-one is your boy-friend or girl-friend. Dating some-one means different things than being friends. Dating When two people spend time together with the goal of starting a romantic relationship.

Are we Dating? How do you know if some-one is your boy-friend or girl-friend? The CIRCLES program has 6 questions that they use to help you figure out what kind of relationship you have with some-one: HOW LONG have you known the person? HOW OFTEN do you see the person? HOW MANY things do you have in common with the person? HOW WELL do you know the person? HOW DEEP are your feelings for the person? HOW SAFE are you with the person? The higher the number, the closer the relationship.

Things to Think About : If you are dating some-one, here are some things to think about: 1.Do you like each other? 2.Do you have things in common? 3.Do you argue a lot? 4.If you argue how does the argument end? 5.Do you get along with each other’s friends? 6.Are you comfortable being around each other? 7.Have you set boundaries? Personal Ad Write down your own personal ad for a dating website. Think about the things that are important to you in the person you want to date and what are the good qualities you bring to a relationship.

Intro to Dating It can be really hard to meet some-one who you would like to date. While there is no easy way to meet some-one that you want to date, there are some places that might be good places to meet people: You might want some-one to help you meet some-one or help with your relationship. If you need help find some-one you trust and ask! Work Dances Activities School Church Work

Safe Dating Tips When you start to date some-one it is important to remember to always be safe. Here are some safe dating tips: Plan to be safe: Before you go out think of different ways to be safe if you find your-self in a dangerous situation. Make a list of people you can call if you need help. Let your date know that some-one is waiting for you to call or be home by a certain time. Trust your gut. If you feel like some-thing may not be right stay calm and think of a way to leave. Pre-planning

If It Does Not Work Out Some-times you really like some-one and you finally get up the courage to ask them out and they say no! Or you might be dating some-one for a while and then they decide that they do not want to go out with you any-more. That Sucks! It happens to every-one! You might feel embarrassed, hurt or you may even be mad! So what do you do? No one likes to be turned down, but the pain, shame or anger will go away with time. The best way to deal with it is to try and stay calm and act as polite as possible.

If It Does Not Work Out It is not fun to be turned down and it is even less fun to have to deal with the consequences if you do some-thing mean, immature or illegal. Remember…treat others the way you would like to be treated. If you said “no” to some-one you did not want to go out with, how would you want them to respond to you? If you broke up with some-one you were dating how would you want them to treat you after?

Key Parts of a Relationship There are a lot of things that make up a relationship. Here are 3 of the big ones: 1.Power 2.Communication 3.Self-Esteem

Power Power and control go hand in hand in a relationship. Power A person’s ability to have a say over what happens to them. A healthy relationship will have equal power and control. This means both people will: Have a choice about who they are and what they do Be able to have things like money and support Be a part of decisions that impact them Abusive relationships have unequal power and control. Power

Communication Having good communication is an important part of a healthy relationship. With communication you can share things like your thoughts, emotions, values, wants, needs and dreams and make sure that they are under-stood. There are 3 different kinds of communication styles: Passive Aggressive Assertive Communication

Self-Esteem Self-esteem How you feel about your-self. A person’s self-esteem can change. It can go up and down. Dating can help build up some-one’s self-esteem or bring it down. Building self-esteem High self-esteem is important in a relationship because if both people have a strong sense of self and are happy with who they are, then there is less of a chance they will feel they have to depend on the other person.

Relationship Duties Partner Another word for boy-friend or girl-friend. It describes the person some-one is dating in a heterosexual or a homosexual relationship. In a relationship both partners have a part to play to make the relationship work. Listen! Give support Need for privacy Respect each other sexually

Discussion Questions As a group discuss the following questions: Thinking about the different relationships in your life, are there any relationships that fit into more than one category? or that you are not sure what category they fit into? How do you show respect? How do you feel if someone is not treating you with respect? What can you say if you are not sure if someone is your boyfriend or girlfriend?

Discussion Questions As a group discuss the following questions: Can you think of some places where you might meet someone you would like to date? What are some things you can do if someone breaks up with you, or you ask them out and they say no? What are some signs that someone might have more power in a relationship? How do the things listed in the relationship duties help make a good relationship?
