IBW at a glance Incorporated in 1966 SCRL (Limited Liability Cooperative Company): purely an intermunicipal public utility company Shareholders: Province of Walloon Brabant and its 27 Boroughs (‘communes’) (Boroughs before the mergers made between 1975 and 1983 = 109) ± 390,000 inhabitants 3 business lines: economic expansion & regional development waste management wastewater treatment

ISO 14.001 and EMAS environmental certification since 2002 Total number of employees / workers= 295 For wastewater treatment: investment department = 18 operating department = 81 + general services = 18 Amount spent on work carried out for wastewater collection + treatment plants (2000 to 2014) = € 366 million + drainage (2003 to 2014) = € 68 million Costs to run operating department = € 12 million per year

IBW structure General meetings (held twice a year): bring together IBW’s associate members: the Province of Walloon Brabant is represented by 5 delegates the 27 Boroughs of Walloon Brabant are each represented by five delegates Board of Directors (meetings held at least twice a year): made up of 25 Borough delegates + 5 provincial delegates representing the socioeconomic fabric of Walloon Brabant Executive Board (weekly meetings): made up of 12 members who ensure the proper running of IBW’s day- to-day business, quickly and efficiently

Study and implementation of wastewater works (drains, collectors, treatment plants) Operation of treatment plants Supervision of municipal drainage works (design, monitoring + coordination for health and safety) Operation of pumping stations Recommendations on permits to discharge wastewater into the drains Checks on the placement of individual treatment systems Endoscopy, cleaning, mapping and land registration of drain networks Plus: monitoring of flood prevention studies and works (Temporary Immersion Zones, Street Expansion Zones, rainwater collectors, etc.) The work we carry out on treating wastewater

Overview of the situation in Walloon Brabant Treatment plants operated by IBW = 40 capacity = 626,000 population equivalents equipment level WB = 97% equipment level WR= 89% Collectors existing in WB = 290 km collection level = 80% Drains existing in WB = more than 2,000 km drainage level = 85% to 90% (depending on the borough)
