History of Biotechnology in North Carolina Significant Events 1958 – established the Research Triangle Park UNC, NCSU and Duke University 1984 – NC Biotechnology Center Quasi-governmental agency to integrate industry, academia and financial interests 1985 – Alamance Community College (aka, TCA) 2 year program in Biotechnology Workforce training 2005 – Ernst and Young report North Carolina 3 rd in nation in Biotechnology Due to Biomanufacturing industry
