Renewable energy Biomass Photovoltaic panels
2
BIOMASS Biomass is the 2nd renewable energy in the world. It allows to generate electricity and heat through the combustion of our waste and residues of organic vegetable or animal matters.
3
In the field of energy and bioenergy in particular, the term biomass refers to all organic matters of plant, animal or fungal origin that can become a source of energy by combustion (ex: wood energy), after methanisation (biogas) or after new chemical transformations. In Morcenx, biomass is made up of pellets from the Landes forest. Waste are collected in the Landes and the neighbouring departments.
4
The maximum power of the station will be 12 MW, equivalent to the power consumption of 50,000 people. According to Europlasma, the station in Morcenx will be the most powerful station of that kind in the world. Biomass in les Landes : the plasma gasification station in Morcenx : ready in spring 2013

Photovoltaic panels in Les Landes
6
A solar panel is a device for collecting the sunlight to convert it into electrical energy.
7
Installations in Les Landes There are 26 large photovoltaic installations in our region and many houses equipped with photovoltaic panels. 2 are consequent : - The solar roof of Rion-des-Landes - The solar farm of Losse
8
Rion-des-Landes The largest solar roof of the Hexagon, equipped with photovoltaic panels, is a building designed to house the ginseng. The investment amounts to 33 million euros. The roof is equipped with 36,900 photovoltaic panels that are a power of 8.7 MWp energy. Connected to EDF network since April, the site should produce the average power consumption of 4,000 homes
9
The solar farm of Losse The third photovoltaic plant in Europe is located in Les Landes. It spreads over 317 ha and is connected to EDF network. To build this plant it cost 350 million euros. The surface of the plant covers 0.74% of the canton. It will produce electricity for 40,000 homes. We visited it last month.
