Movement & Participation for Classes
23
Movement & Participation for class … Since this year you only get one shot to pass the STAAR tests, we recommend that you do the following: – Buckle down and pay attention. You’re in for the long haul. It’s going to be a tough journey but if everything was easy do you think we would have what we have. – Move with speed and grace and most importantly don’t hold everyone up. Time is precious this year and if you slow down you might actually miss important information. Then it will be your luck that what you missed in class was actually what you needed to answer that one last question. – Be respectful. You never know who’s help you’re going to need in order to succeed in these classes.
24
This year’s subjects

Social Studies Type information here
28
Science & Lab We will do warm-up and a TEKSING type file folder to cover all science TEKS for the year. This will help prepare us for the October benchmark. Also we will be answering a lot of benchmark type questions in our Motivational Science workbook. These will count as daily grades. Finally we will have tests and vocabulary quizzes for the year. Being able to work in the science lab is a privilege not a right. Follow all rules laid out by the lab instructor and treat equipment and partners with care. There will be several opportunities for lab based projects. There will be consequences assigned if kicked out of the lab or breaking the lab’s, classes’, or school’s rules.
29
Computers Being able to work on the computer is a privilege not a right. Follow all rules laid out by the lab instructor and treat these machines with care. There will be several opportunities for computer based projects. There will be consequences assigned if kicked out of the lab or breaking the lab’s, classes’, or school’s rules.
30
Homework
31
Homework Homework will be assigned every night for math, unless I change my mind. We shall see. IT will be up to the student to read their library books every night and take at least 2 AR tests for a reading grade by Friday every week. S.S. & Science homework once a week. If homework is not completed by Friday at 8:00 am students will receive a lunch detention. If it is received on the next Monday, 15 points will be deducted. If it is not turned in by Monday, it will receive a grade of “0.”
32
What happens when I am absent?
33
When you are absent … Make sure to turn in any absent notes to Mrs. Ballard with your first & last name, grade, and homeroom teacher’s last name. Do this before you come to class. – Ex. Michelle Awesomeness Mrs. Le’Roy 5 th grade It is your responsibility to ask the teacher for any make- up work and homework grades. Also any notes you missed.
34
What happens when I am tardy?
35
When you are absent/tardy … In order to be on time make sure you arrive and have eaten breakfast by 7:30 am. Especially if you are bus, because most of the buses arrive by 7:15 am. The only way bus students can be not counted tardy is if the office notifies the teacher. Otherwise it is your responsibility to be in your seat by the tardy bell. If you are in the hallway or anywhere else except your seat you will be counted tardy. All tardy slips will be handed into your homeroom teacher.
36
What are the consequences for repeated Tardies and Absences?
37
Repeated Tardies / Absences … After 5 tardies you will receive a lunch detention and so on counting by 5s. Phone calls will be made home about excessive tardies and absenteeism. If students are tardy or miss too much school and cannot complete or turn in any required work, extracurricular activities may be cut including fieldtrips.
