Somatotyping By the end of this lesson, I will be able to: Know what somatotyping is. Assess ones Somatotypes in relation to sports.

Somatotyping What is it? Success in sport depends to a large extent on your build. Somatotyping is a way to describe build. It looks at how much fat, how muscular you are and how linear you are, in that order.

Ratings Somatotypes are rated. Each is measured on a scale of 1-7. 1 = Low 7 = High

Extreme endomorph Wide hips & narrow shoulders (pear shaped). Fat. Fat on upper arms and thighs. Slim wrists and ankles. Somatotype rating: 7 1 1

Extreme Mesomorph Broad shoulders, narrow hips (wedge shaped). Large head. Muscular. Strong forearms and thighs. Very little body fat. Somatotype rating: 1 7 1

Extreme ectomorph Narrow shoulders and hips. Thin face, high forehead. Thin narrow chest and abdomen. Thin legs and arms. Very little muscle or fat. Somatotype rating: 1 1 7
