Transition between hook and essential information Clear and strong thesis? Does thesis answer the prompt? Is it at the end of the introduction? Is the thesis supported by the topic sentences of each sub-point?

*Sub-Points (complete for each) Is quote/evidence introduced by setting up the context? It is beneficial to give the reader background of the quote Is there a correctly-formatted quote Is it integrated with your own words? Is there an explanation of how the quote supports the topic sentence? ** Do not start or end a paragraph/sub- topic with a quotation

*Conclusion Is the thesis reworded? Is the paper connected back to the prompt? Is the paper thoughtfully concluded?

*Mechanics -Check all words ending is “s”. Are they possessive? Do they need an apostrophe? -Underline sentence beginnings of when, because, since, if, although, after, even though, while, in order that Make sure that your sentence is not a fragment. Make sure you have a comma connecting the dependent clause to the rest of the sentence. -No sentence should begin with “so”. -Take out all “I”, “me”, “you” words (1 st and 2 nd person) -Circle all pronouns. Make sure you give an antecedent for the pronoun and that the cases match -Do all of your sentences make sense? -Are all words spelled correctly? Double-check then/than, affect/effect, to/too, their/there -Make sure the entire paper is in the literary present tense. -Check all words ending in “-ing”. See if it should be changed to a more active verb. Example: “is trying”= tries -Change any other use of passive voice
