Practice l (Study) English is difficult –Studying English is difficult –To study English is difficult l (Find) a good job was easy l (Move) to New York was a bad idea l (Watch) a lot of television is common l (Be) on vacation was fun

Practice l They enjoy (live) in Charlotte l She planned (move) to New York l He considered (drop) the class l We hope (find) the keys l She anticipated (meet) the actor l They asked me (play) piano

Passive Gerunds l As subject –Being seen on television made him famous l As object –He appreciates being given the opportunity l After preposition –They depended on being released early

Passive Infinitives l As subject –To be promoted made Tina very happy l As object –She hopes to be promoted l After preposition –Not possible! After preposition, use gerund

Past Gerunds l As subject –Having found a job makes him happy l As object –He appreciates having met the king l After preposition –He looks back on having lost the money with sadness

Past Infinitives l As subject –To have lived fully satisfies the soul l As object –The rain seems to have stopped l After preposition –Not possible! Use gerunds after prepositions

Past and Passive Gerunds l As subject –Having been arrested hurt his reputation l As object –He remembers having been surprised l After preposition –He is comfortable with having been elected
