3. Grade 8: Chapter 1 Sin is any thought, word, deed, or omission against God’s law. Mortal Sin is a serious sin that breaks our friendship with God. A sin is mortal when: 1. The sin is about a serious matter. 2. We commit the sin knowing it’s seriously wrong.

4. Grade 8: Chapter 1 3. We commit sin of our own free will. Venial Sin is a less serious sin that weakens our friendship with God. Eternal Life is a life of happiness with God forever, given to us in the Sacrament of Baptism. Grace is a sharing in God’s life and friendship.

5. Grade 8: Chapter 1 Church is the community of people who believe in Jesus Christ, have been baptized in Him and follow His teachings. Through the Sacrament of Penance we are absolved of our sins, both venial and mortal.
