Unit 7 Project This term we have learned about the roles, responsibilities, and various career opportunities within the field, and as we explored each career opportunity, we discussed standards, strategies, and professional standards. For your Unit 7 Project, you will write a 1-2 page essay (3-4 pages total) There is a title page and reference page, so the body is 1-2 pages. sharing how the role of the early childhood professional is different from what it was in the past. Using the template provided, you will include the following: Identify how professionalism, personal characteristics, responsibilities, expectations, and roles have changed. Explain some of the new roles the early childhood professional should anticipate. Share how historical events, theorists, or legislation have influenced these changes. 21

25. 25 Childcare History Timeline 1762 Philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau states that a child's mode of thinking is different than an adult and they learn though hands-on experience. 1801 Johann Pestalozzi established what is considered to the first school to teach preschool age children. 1898 Hull House, a settlement house for immigrants, establishes a day nursery. 1907 Maria Montesorri opens the Children's House in Rome.Maria Montesorri 1926 National Association for the Education of Young Children is founded. Now overNational Association for the Education of Young Children 80,000 members and 400 affiliates. 1940’s Kaiser Shipyard provides childcare for working women during WWII. 1964 Head Start is funded by the Economic Opportunities Act. Infants and toddlers with disabilities (birth-2) and their families receive early intervention services under IDEA Part C.
