Geography/History 1. Events beyond living memory that are significant nationally or globally/ 2. Changes within living memory. What material will be best to protect Max and Nibbles from the loud sounds of fireworks? We will look at the properties of different materials around our school. We will make our own material boards. We will use our junk model dinosaurs to write about different materials. How can we sort out a selection of materials? – Create a block graph based on materials in our classroom. English Reading We will continue the Letters and Sounds programme to develop our phonics for reading and writing. We will be listening to and reading a range of stories, poems and information books about dinosaurs. Writing Non- chronological report - Dinosaurs Recount – Holidays Poetry – firework/Christmas shape and acrostic poetry Letter – From King James and a letter to Santa Diary entry from Guy Fawkes. Wanted posters and descriptions. Bonfire night safety poster. Maths We will look at sharing practically and written methods, Lean our 2, 5 and 10 times tables. We will measure objects using different measurements including length and capacity. We will use money practically in a shop situation to solve problems. We will be working out halves of objects and quantities both practically and written methods. Science RE and PSHE Order and retell the Christmas story. We will be looking at gifts and what gifts we would give Baby Jesus. History/Geography We will be looking at the history of dinosaurs. We will be looking at Guy Fawkes and the history of bonfire night. We will make a timeline of the dinosaurs to the present day. We will retell the story of Guy Fawkes. PE Through a variety of games we will learn skills needed to play games. We will practise the skills in depth before participating in team games. French We will be learning how to count to 10 and beyond. We will learn the days of the week. Art/DT Design and make you own Christmas decoration. Design and make a dinosaur habitat. “The dinosaur that pooped the past” – Design and make a new swing for the dinosaurs. We will plan design and evaluate our final products. Christmas crafts Activities for Year 1 Autumn 2 Dinosaurs and Dynamite Music Use instruments to make sounds. Play in time with a beat/rhythm. ICT E-safety We will use the bee bots to make simple algorithms to show the dinosaurs how to get home.
