2 Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) Partnership with ESCB 1/1/07: Mandatory certification for all PSAP 9-1-1 call takers ~60% currently EMD trained, but no QI 3 similar, but different, training programs and pre-arrival protocols.

3 Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) 2008 Goal: Maine EMD program with statewide, standardized, protocols

4 Emergency Medical Services (EMS) 2 types of services: non-transporting / transporting (ambulances) 4 license levels: – First Responder: AED, CPR, O2 – EMT: + nitro, ASA – EMT-Intermediate: + basic cardiac monitoring, advanced airway, medications

5 Emergency Medical Services (EMS) EMT-Paramedic ACLS protocols 12 lead EKG PIFT ALS provided on ~ 85% of all emergency calls (2005)

6 Maine EMS Department of Public Safety Responsible for prehospital training curricula, licensing, treatment protocols, data, system oversight Board of EMS Medical Directions & Practices Board Trauma Advisory Committee Regional EMS

7 Maine EMS MDPB  CAC + MQF = HART
