(but) The man was sleeping, but the animals talked to him anyway. A compound sentence is formed by joining two or more simple sentences with a comma and a conjunction. A conjunction is a word that connects groups of words or phrases. They include and, but, or, so, after, and unless. Let’s make up a few sentences using conjunctions.
