Project “Formulation of the WEEE Strategy for Central America Workshop gathered 86 participants from Environment, Health and Telecommunications Authorities of Central America, Academia, NGOs, and regional and extraregional private companies. BCRC-Caribbean participated. Project “Formulation of the WEEE Strategy for Central America Expert speakers, members of BCRC-El Salvador’s international network, shared their willingness to support the formulation and implementation of the WEEE strategy for Central America (e.g. USEPA, Ministry of Environment of Japan, Ministry of Trade of Brazil, StEP/UNU, SBRS, EMPA WEEE Project in Colombia, MIT, INTERPOL Environmental Crime Division, SIMS Recycling Solutions, Telefonica, DELL, etc.). Expert speakers, members of BCRC-El Salvador’s international network, shared their willingness to support the formulation and implementation of the WEEE strategy for Central America (e.g. USEPA, Ministry of Environment of Japan, Ministry of Trade of Brazil, StEP/UNU, SBRS, EMPA WEEE Project in Colombia, MIT, INTERPOL Environmental Crime Division, SIMS Recycling Solutions, Telefonica, DELL, etc.). It allowed the sharing of the Costa Rican WEEE policy and BCRC-El Salvador’s technology transfer on ESM of Used Lead Acid Batteries (ULAB), which facilitated $35 million in green investments in Guatemala (Acumuladores Iberia), Costa Rica (PB Metals), in the Dominican Republic (VERI) and in Colombia (MAC).
