2 What is Group Think?  A form of faulty decision making in cohesive groups in which there is insufficient thinking.

3 The Positive Qualities:  It can bring a reduction in individualism individualism  think can produce grand results  company is likely to prosper  Those who go along get along  Job security could be your reward  You might gain social acceptance  “soft-line” method of criticism

4 The Negative Qualities:  Individual creativity, uniqueness, and uniqueness, and independent thinking independent thinking are lost are lost

5 The Negative Qualities:  Groups affected by groupthink ignore alternatives and tend to take irrational actions that dehumanize other groups.

6 The Negative Qualities:  A group is especially vulnerable to groupthink when its members are similar in background,  When the group is insulated from outside options.

7 The Negative Qualities:  When there are no clear rules for decision making.

8 Remedies:  Decision experts have determined that groupthink may be prevented by adopting some of the following measures:

11 Remedies:  Each member of the group should routinely discuss the groups' thoughts with a trusted associate and report back to the group on the associate's reactions.

12 Remedies:  One or more experts should be invited to each meeting on a staggered basis. The outside experts should be encouraged to challenge views of the members.

13 Remedies:  At least one articulate and knowledgeable member should be given the role of devil's advocate (to question assumptions and plans)

14 Remedies:  The leader should make sure that a sizeable block of time is set aside to survey warning signals from rivals; leader and group construct alternative scenarios of rivals' intentions.
