Fire Fighting Systems Fi Fi Mains ●White System: This system has a lower output as far as volume goes. This main supplies 3x Eductor/Hydrants (500 gpm). All hydrants are located on the main deck. Two are at the aft Bulwarks, P&S and the other is just forward of the superstructure on port side. It also supplies the 1 inch hose reel located at the aft of the superstructure mounted overhead at the boat deck level. The White system is supplied by the # 3 Engine & # 7 Pump discharging 2000 gpm@250 psi. It is likely this system will be the most used on the boat.

Fire Fighting Systems A quick look at the controls on the panels in the wheelhouse. EZ to follow. The White system has its own control panel. The panel was not installed yet for us to show you.

Fire Fighting Systems Fire Pumps ●1-SFP HP 150x200 FFS single stage centrifugal pump ●Sealed bearings permanently greased no maintenance ●Hard mounted with a direct flexible coupling drive off the C-12 Caterpillar ●Nominal speed 1800 rpm ●2000 gpm @ 250 psi ●Stand alone Pump and Engine. Can only be controlled from wheelhouse ●White System. Pump 7

Fire Fighting Systems Fire Pumps White system Pump is rated at 2000 gpm 250 psi. This will be the workhorse system. Most hand lines, (foam capable) dewatering of vessels and washdown/containment will derive from this system. Located aft and Starboard in the ER. Pump 7 Aft

Fire Fighting Systems Pump Intakes The White system (2000) gpm intake valve assembly is located just forward of # 7 Engine and Pump. Notice that the actuator sets right at the floor plate level. C-12 Engine

Fire Fighting Systems Discharge Piping The Discharge piping consists of a series of valves, check valves (clappers) and bypasses. Also system pressure sensors. As previously mentioned, the Blue System has an Isolation valve to separate the system into two parts if wanted. We are not going to trace all the systems out with a pictorial highway. To much to show. You will see it soon enough. But since these systems are all similar, a of couple of pictures will suffice. We will look at the bypasses, clappers and fire main overboard discharges. It is important to remember that there are NO relief valves in these Fire Fighting Systems. The occurrence of a Water Hammer has to be constantly on the mind of the operator while pumping. Thousands of gallons (weight) in motion can not stop quicky without damaging something! Take your time!

Fire Fighting Systems Discharge Piping Clapper Valve All discharge systems are identical in regards to the valving, clapper- valves and bypasses. Remember the discharge valves are remotely controlled from the wheelhouse FFS panels.

Fire Fighting Systems Bypass Systems ●Clapper Valve bypass (drain) ●Clapper Valve ●Isolation Valves ●Bypass Loop ●(RC) Discharge Valve ●Sensors/Gages The idea of the bypass loop is to be able to fill the system very slowly to minimize water hammer. In reality we will leave the isolation valve open and fill the system at idle, watching for a lazy discharge out the monitors. Possibly at times using the overboard discharges.

Fire Fighting Systems Fire Main Overboards The overboard systems are remotely controlled from the FFS panels. The operator can use the Overboards to divert pressure or drain a system. The water flow is directed downward at the through hull for obvious reasons. Visualize the out flow. Overboard Discharge Clapper Valve (RC) Discharge Valve

Fire Fighting Systems Fi Fi Controls The controls are 24v activated from the FFS panels. The discharge valves are Electric Motor driven. The intake valves are Electric/Air. Air being the driver. Valves are slow Opening/Closing

Fire Fighting System Fi Fi Controls Pressure Gages are located on the fore and aft panels in the Wheel- House. Pick your color! Notice there are two Blue gages. This is because the Blue system can be separated by the Isolation valve we mentioned earlier.

Fire Fighter System Fi Fi Controls Overview of forward panel. EZ to follow! Notice they are installing the Engineer's chair! SWEET!
