Patent Policy and Procedures: The contributor is familiar with the IEEE 802 Patent Policy and Procedures, including the statement "IEEE standards may include the known use of patent(s), including patent applications, provided the IEEE receives assurance from the patent holder or applicant with respect to patents essential for compliance with both mandatory and optional portions of the standard." Early disclosure to the Working Group of patent information that might be relevant to the standard is essential to reduce the possibility for delays in the development process and increase the likelihood that the draft publication will be approved for publication. Please notify the Chair as early as possible, in written or electronic form, if patented technology (or technology under patent application) might be incorporated into a draft standard being developed within the IEEE 802.11 Working Group. doc.: IEEE 802.11-08/0787r2 Submission July 2008 Ruijun Feng, China Mobile Background In the hot spots of a city, an operator’s WLAN may come across multi-competitor’s WLAN or non-profit WLAN.

doc.: IEEE 802.11-08/0787r2 Submission July 2008 Ruijun Feng, China Mobile Problem APs within small distance working in the same channel will cause severe interference to each other. Besides, an AP with higher emission power could also decrease the performance of a neighbor AP working in the same channel. Interference between co-channel APs is one of the major causes to customer complaints.

doc.: IEEE 802.11-08/0787r2 Submission July 2008 Ruijun Feng, China Mobile Proposal It is necessary for the operators to find a list of interfering APs in time. This interferer AP list will make it easier and more quickly to –Find the problems and; –Resolve the problems with potential techniques or through negotiations. Especially, when a group of APs is being interfered with the same AP(s), an operator can locate the problem quickly and exactly

doc.: IEEE 802.11-08/0787r2 Submission July 2008 Ruijun Feng, China Mobile Proposal NMS will collect these information from each APs periodically. To use “RCPI” to tell whether an AP is interfering or not To use “MAC Address” and “ESSID” or “BSSID” to know which organization the AP belongs to It seems that 11v has defined ‘co-located interference report’, but there are no MAC and ESSID/BSSID included. It is inconvenient to locate the original interferer.
