Tomáš Baťa Born 3 rd April 1876 Zlín Died 12 th July 1932 – during a plane crash - Otrokovice, Czechoslovakia Occupation Founder of Bata Shoes The first businessman in former Czechoslovakia, who used Taylor´s system of management – speed of work performance according to time norms He visited Linn shoe factory and took knowledge for his business

Tomáš Baťa Carier Tomáš Baťa established the organization in Zlín on 24 th August 1894 His brother Jan Antonín Baťa and sister Anna were partners in the firm T. & A. Bata Shoes 1908 after his brother Jan Antonín Baťa died from tuberculosis Companies in other countries like Poland, Yugoslavia, India...

Tomáš Baťa Organisation of Baťa production Production was divided into parts – workshops, departments and shops Each part of the company has its own accounting system Each part bought products or semi-products from previous part, did some operation on the products or semi-products and sold it to the following workshop If the workshop, shop or department met business plan it obtained share from profit, if not they had to pay penalty to the following workshop

Tomáš Baťa Organisation of Baťa production Baťa established company self-rule with self accounting, evidence of property, stock and production Each employee had the share on profit, it was payed out in parts usually 50% The second part of profit share was kept on so called personnal accounts and Baťa used money for development of the company Baťa was precise with planning – semiannual, weekly, daily Part of every decision was the economic calculation He emphasized team work, motivation, reliability and selfactivity

Tomáš Baťa Baťa's leadership for quality and innovation Baťa did is a superb illustration of what is now called "quality management". Baťa said: „the task which I gave myself was not to establish the company but to form the people. My effort was to improve my emploeeys to satisfy the customers. Good business can run only when you create spiritual conditions which enable to improve your emploeeys and factory.“

Tomáš Baťa Wages scheme Tomáš Baťa used 4 basic types of wages: Fixed rate - paid to a technical-operative and an administrative staff Individual order based rate - paid out to some manufacture specialists Collective task rate - defined for manufacture labour Profit contribution rate - received by operational managers Also typical is so called "Baťa price" used to give a price ended Mostar always by number nine. Basically meaning that a price 99 or 19.99 looks apparently much better than rounded number such as 100 or 20, even though the difference is just 1 currency unit.
