Annotated Reading An Introduction
2
What is annotated reading? Reading comprehension requires you to connect with the reading assignment. Marking and annotating the text gets you to engage and interact with it in a physical way. Your pencil, pen and highlighter are terrific tools you can use to improve reading comprehension and remember the assigned text. Get the most out of a reading assignment by marking it up. http://www.ehow.com/how_2165687_annotate-reading-assignment.html http://www.ehow.com/how_2165687_annotate-reading-assignment.html

Why pen or pencil? Unlike "highlighting," which is a passive activity, the process of annotating text helps you to stay focused and involved with your textbook. You'll find that the process of taking notes as you read will help you to concentrate better. It will also help you to monitor and improve your comprehension. If you come across something that you don't understand or that you need to ask you instructor about, you'll be able to quickly make note of it, and then go on with your reading. http://faculty.bucks.edu/specpop/annotate.htm
