The Iditarod is a dog Sled race in Alaska. In the race there are rest areas for the dogs And the mushers, they’re called checkpoints. Introduction

Every musher starts with 16 dogs. You have to have more than 6 dogs or you will have to scratch. The dogs have to be well trained, especially the lead dog. Dogs

My musher Jim Lanier was born in Washington, DC and raised in Fargo, North Dakota, where his family moved when he was 6. He began mushing in 1977 and says he got the bug from Iditarod mushers Ron Gould. Musher

There are two trails the northern route and the southern route. Every even year they take the Northern route. Every uneven year they take the southern route. On the northern rout there Are 26 Checkpoints and on the southern rout There are 27 Checkpoints. Routes & Checkpoints

The Iditarod has a lot of awards. One is the red lantern award which is given to the last team to finish the race. The Anchorage Chrysler dodge Official Truck Award is given to the team who Comes in 1 st place and the Sportsmanship Award. Awards
