Was born in San Francisco, California Ansel Adams His Aunt gave this to him when he was sick and inspired him in the art of photography
3
Yosemite He convinced his parents to take him to Yosemite National Park, after reading The Heart of the Sierras, here he was given his first camera as a gift.
4
At 17 he joined the Sierra Club Adams quit school and educated him self. He originally wanted to become a pianist. After years of going back and forth between being a pianist or a photographer he finally chose being a photographer.
5
He became an environmentalist He typically took pictures of untouched (by man) land. He also took pictures of Manzanar Relocation Center (Japanese-American internment)
6
Medal of Freedom He was rewarded this medal by Jimmy Carter for: "efforts to preserve this country's wild and scenic areas, both on film and on earth." He was also President Johnsons environmental advisor.
7
He had a mountain name after him in honor.
8
Grand Canyon The lighting is natural, and its coming from the east. The main subject of the photo is the rock in about the center plus the river. I can tell because that’s what catches my eye first. The photo is striking because of how the light shines on the rock as well as the dark shadow on the opposite side. I don’t really think there's a story being told in this photo.
9
Tetons and the Snake River 1942 The light is natural, and its coming from the front (the top). The main subject is the river traveling in to the Mountain. I can tell because my eyes travel with the river. What makes it so striking is the way the light shines over the top of the mountain. Again I don’t really this there’s a story.
10
Zabriskie Point 1942 The light is coming from behind Adams. I don’t really see a main subject. The thing that’s striking about the photo is the fact that it seems very maze like.
11
Unknown The light natural and coming from behind the tree from the east. The main subject is the tree. I know this because the tree is practically the only thing in the photo. The way the tree look is what draws me into this photo.
12
Landscapes of Yosemite National Park. The light is coming from the east I believe. The main subject is the giant cloud. I can tell because the cloud over powers everything else. The cloud is the most striking just due to it’s size.
