Lots of people come to hospital for different procedures, today we are going to talk about having a Blood test.

The Procedure in 7 simple steps. Collecting blood for this test will only take a few minutes. A health professional will usually draw the blood from a vein. 1. You can have the choice of Magic cream (Ametop), or Cold spray (Dermogesic) 2.The skin surface is cleaned with antiseptic wipe. 3.An elastic band (tourniquet) is placed around the upper arm to apply pressure. 4.A needle is inserted into a vein usually in the arm or on the back of the hand. 5.Blood is withdrawn and collected in a vial or syringe. 6.The elastic band is removed and the needle is removed. 7.The area is covered with plaster to stop the bleeding.

Step 1 Magic cream (Ametop) This can be put onto the area where you will be having a blood test. This helps to make the area go numb.

Step 2 Your skin is cleaned with antiseptic wipe.
