What is the Successful Technology Licensing (STL) Training Program ? Program developed by the WIPO Secretariat as a response to the needs and requests from Member States. STL Guide and standardized training materials - model program, procedure, hypothetical stories, evaluation form and presentations. Methodology of the Program - combination of standardized modules and contributions customized to specific situations in different countries and regions. Objective - delivering practical and sustainable tool to Member States in developing licensing skills.

STL Program Training Materials - Methodology and Content Training procedure Training lasts four days, with possibility to be prolonged one day for drafting exercise. The procedure contains the following phases: Introduction to the Basics The Key Terms and Negotiation of the Agreement Preparation for the Licensing Negotiation Licensing Negotiation Drafting a Licensing Agreement Strategic Overview and Follow up Activities

STL Program Training Materials Procedure - Objectives To introduce the basics about preconditions and overall situation in which licensing occurs; To explain the fundamental notions of the licensing philosophy and ways it should be used in business; To offer specific knowledge on key terms, To explain the mechanics of negotiation; To give an opportunity to the participants to apply knowledge acquired in a practical exercise.

STLProgramTarget Audience Select audience (VERY IMPORTANT) Scientific and academic institutions (creators of new technologies) Public/private sector enterprises (creators, users and commercializers of new technologies). To obtain the best and long term results: the participants should in a position to practically utilise the knowledge acquired, to develop it through their own experience, and ultimately to be capable to transmit it to other, national or regional interested parties.

STL Program Training Materials - Methodology and Content Hypothetical Stories The models are hypothetical stories which can be adapted to the needs of the particular training program and customized in the line with the culture of the country or the region where training is to be organized. The names of the story actors initials can be changed to correspond to local names, to help the participants to better identify with the roles they will have in the negotiation exercise.
